I am looking for a good virus scanner that does not use up much system resources. My PC is quite old. In the past I have used Norton (2006 or 2007 I can’t remember) but it was quite heavy on system resources.
My PC specs are:
Win XP Home SP2
1GHz Pentium 3
640MB RAM
Thanks.
It doesn’t have to be free.

try avast its free doesn’t consume very much resource and is light
Virus scanners just don’t work. There is not a single dependable virus scanner on the market. (I think Norton came closest at 80%) I have not had a virus since the floppy disk went extinct and I have been computing since the 80’s careful housekeeping techniques and not using Internet explorer are your safest bets. Only Internet explorer will download an exe file without your knowledge. Back-ups are good too.
Avira is also a good anti-virus

For all the other answerees, this person wants something which does not sacrifice performance. I would use avg or adaware. They are not like norton, and most importantly can run quite sufficiently on pentium processors.
